Assistant Chief Mark P. Allston, NRP was appointed to the New Castle County Emergency Medical Service in 1991 as a paramedic candidate. He attended the Medical Center of Delaware Paramedic Training Program, graduating in July 1992. He successfully completed the paramedic field certification process in September that same year.
Assistant Chief Allston has held assignments in Field Operations on both Medic 1 and Medic 8 in the city of Wilmington. He also served as a Field Training Officer for the EMS Division. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July 2003, and has held assignments as both a shift commander in Field Operations, and as the Recruitment Coordinator in the Administration/Special Operations Branch. He was promoted to EMS Captain in January 2014 where he served as the executive officer in the Office of the EMS Chief. He was promoted to EMS Assistant Chief in May 2015 and was initially assigned as the Commander, Operations Branch.
Assistant Chief Allston has received several awards and official commendations, including the Ministry of Caring Sharing Bowl, Jefferson Award for Public Service and Wilmington Award for Public Service. He has received two Community Policing Awards, a Commendation of Heroism, Distinguished Unit Citation (two awards), and several Unit Letters of Commendation from the New Castle County Department of Public Safety.
Assistant Chief Allston has attended the University of Wyoming and Wilmington University, in addition to the National Fire Academy at the National Emergency Training Center. He is also a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Academy sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police.
