This unit was formed in 1976 as the Crime Prevention Unit and was aimed at reducing residential crimes. Today, the unit has specialists trained in a wide variety of safety and security concerns, and it offers thirtyseven programs to the public upon request. These programs run the gamut from watch programs (community, block, radio, realtor) to safety programs (personal,child,senior citizen, bicycle,driving, holiday, gun, vacation, pool, Halloween). Prevention programs (rape and assault, D.U.I., carjacking) are also provided. The Community Services Unit currently operates and oversees several vibrant, continuing programs. |
