Minimum Qualifications
The selection process for New Castle County Police officers is a highly competitive one. A successful candidate must possess good social skills and general intelligence: good powers of observation and memory; good judgment; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and excellent moral character and cardiovascular and physical condition. In order to assure that only the best qualified women and men are hired as New Castle County Police Officers, a rigorous testing process is in place.
In order to be invited to compete, you must be at least twenty one (21) years of age and possess at least an Associates Degree, or at least sixty (60) college credit hours. You may also qualify if you have thirty (30) credits and at least two (2) consecutive years of active service in the U.S. Armed Forces with an honorable discharge. Thirty (30) credits with at least two (2) consecutive years of service as a Delaware certified police officer is accepted as well. Degrees and/ or credit hours must have been earned from an accredited college or university, and copies of official transcripts will be requested. You will receive written notification regarding your qualifications within four weeks of the closing date stated on the job announcement.
