Prospective technicians must be police officers with a minimum of five years service with the Department and have a minimum of five years service left before official retirement, with additional administrative and physical requirements as set by the FBI.  Officers are trained by the FBI/Army Hazardous Devices School at Huntsville, Alabama for a period of six weeks and then return to on-the-job training with in-service technicians.  Members of the team are available on a 24/7 call schedule, responding to agency incidents and requests by other entities who may not have their own EOD support.  The team's equipment includes response vehicles, robotics, imaging tools and protective armor.
