The New Castle County Evidence Detection Unit is composed of five crime scene detectives. The unit's duties and responsibilities are as follows: Process crime scenes as assigned. These scenes include burglaries, roberies, death investigations, assaults, sexual assaults, homicides, and other incidents as deemed by supervision. During the processing of a crime scene the investigating evidence detection officer documents the scene with video, photography and crime scene sketches. They are respossible for locating, processing and analyzing physical evidence obtained at a crime scene. The Evidence Detection Officer processes items of evidence for latent prints and trace evidence both on scene or in a controlled environment.
