  • Is all crime that occurred in New Castle County mapped?
No.  Only crime that occurred in the jurisdiction of the New Castle County Police is mapped.  Generally, this is any crime that occurred in a neighborhood or at an address on a secondary road in unincorporated areas of New Castle County.  If the crime occurred in a city or town that is patrolled by another police department, or if the crime occurred on a state numbered roadway or in a commercial area, it is not in the jurisdiction of the New Castle County Police.

  • Why don’t you map rapes?
Most rapes in New Castle County involve offenders known to the victim.  We do not map rapes to protect the victim’s privacy.  When stranger rapes occur, they are well publicized by the Media Coordinator.

  • What is the time period for the data displayed?
The incidents displayed are for the three month period dating back one full month prior to the current date.  Example: If the current month is May, the data displayed is for the period January through March.  This allows for more accurate classification of crimes and prevents ongoing investigations from being compromised.

  • How do navigate the map?
On the map page, enter the address where you want the map to be centered.  Crimes will be ploted on the map at the appropriate zoom level around the entered address.  After the map is centered, you may move the map by dragging it with your mouse.  As the mapped is moved, the crimes are plotted on the new map area.  The address must be entered in the following format:  87 Reads Way New Castle DE 19702.
  • Why are addresses listed in hundred blocks rather than the specific address?
Again, victim privacy.  We provide the mapping as a tool for the public to examine general crime trends in their community.  It is not intended as a means to snoop in your neighbors’ business.

  • Can I get more detailed crime information for my community?
Yes.  The New Castle County Police Community Services Unit will address civic association meetings and other community groups.  They will be prepared with additional data when they address your group or civic organization.  The Community Services Unit can be contacted at 302-395-8050 or e-mail Lt. Craig Weldon, CWeldon@nccde.org.

  • Who prepares the crime data?
The information displayed by the crime maps is prepared by the Crime Analysis Unit.  If you have comments, questions or need assistance with the map, please e-mail S/Sgt. Michael Walsh, MWalsh@nccde.org.
