New Castle County Property Tax Deadline Approaching

NEW CASTLE, Del. – New Castle County would like to remind residents that County property taxes and State of Delaware school taxes are due Wednesday, September 30.

By law, any balance that remains on accounts as of October 1 will be subject to a 6 percent penalty, and a 1 percent penalty each month thereafter.

New Castle County provides a variety of convenient ways for customers to pay their bills on time and avoid any late fees. New Castle County property taxes and State school taxes are combined into one billing statement. State school tax rates are set by the local school districts; New Castle County simply collects the taxes and passes them on to the districts.

Property owners may pay both amounts with a single check or money order payable to “New Castle County” using the return envelope provided. Taxpayers can also send payments by mail to: New Castle County Taxes, P.O. Box 430, Claymont, DE 19703.

Cash, check, money order, Discover Card, and PIN debit card payments are accepted at the New Castle County Government Center, 87 Reads Way, New Castle. The payment window is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

On Tuesday September 29, and Wednesday September 30, the payment window will remain open until 6 p.m. A drop box is available for check and money order payments 24 hours a day at the main entrance of the Government Center.

Property owners may also pay their property taxes in the Rec Center of the Appoquinimink Library on Thursday, September 10 and Thursday, September 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Payments may be made at this location with cash, check, money order, and PIN debit card only.

In addition to paying by mail or in person, residents can pay their tax bill with a Discover Card by calling the New Castle County Office of Finance at (302) 323-2600. Discover Card charges customers a service fee that varies based on the amount of the bill.

Other major credit cards are accepted through Paymentus, a third-party company that accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and electronic check. Paymentus can be reached on the Internet through the link on the New Castle County site (www.nccde.org), or by calling at 1-877-225-7351. Paymentus charges users a service fee equal to 2.5% of the total payment. Residents with questions concerning making payments through Paymentus may call its Customer Contact Center at 1-800-420-1663.

Taxpayers can access their property tax information and payment status on-line using the “parcel view” link on the County’s website: www.nccde.org/parcelview. Those who misplace their bill can download a duplicate via the site, which also provides detailed account information including payment history and a breakout of specific charges for property, school, light, and crossing guard taxes.

Property owners who need more information should call the New Castle County billing information line at (302) 323-2600.
