Public invited to explore careers in emergency communications

New Castle County to host recruitment information sessions August 28 and 29 

New Castle – Are you interested in a career in emergency communications? Learn about the work of emergency telecommunicators and how their work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment contributes to public safety by attending community information sessions on Monday, August 28 and Tuesday, August 29 from 7-8:30 pm at the New Castle County Public Safety Building, 3601 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle. Each information session will highlight the role of an emergency telecommunicator in the 911 Emergency Communications Center, review career development opportunities in the County’s Emergency Communications Division and conclude with a tour of New Castle County’s state-of-the-art 911 Center.

“Emergency communications is a lifeline for members of the community during their times of need,” said County Executive Matthew Meyer. “Our dedicated staff ensures that fire, police and emergency medical services are deployed where needed to keep the community safe. On August 28 and 29 get started on your path to a rewarding and challenging career. We hope you will join us.”

Information session attendees who are interested in exploring a career in emergency communications may enroll in a free 40-hour public safety operator certification course taught by instructors from the New Castle County Emergency Communications Division. Course participants will be introduced to the on-the-job knowledge and skills used by an emergency telecommunicator, learn about the technologies employed in public safety communications and complete the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch ETC Certification Exam. Space is limited to the first 25 registrants.

Please note: Individuals interested in the 40-hour public safety operator certification course must have the ability to type at least 35 words per minute, must not have been convicted of a serious criminal or motor vehicle violation and must not be the subject of an active warrant, capias or protection order.
