Seeks feedback from the public about county spending priorities and the proposed Fiscal Year 2018 budget

New Castle, DE – On Thursday, March 30 at 7 pm County Executive Matthew Meyer will host a Facebook Live video town hall to engage with residents about his proposed Fiscal Year 2018 budget and hear their feedback about the county’s spending priorities. The event will stream live on the New Castle County Facebook page at www.facebook.com/nccde.

Shortly after taking office in January, County Executive Meyer and his team discovered that county government faced a $5.2 million deficit in the current fiscal year, and that without action to address a long-term structural imbalance between revenues and expenditures the annual deficit will grow to more than $20 million within two years. This week, Meyer unveiled a Fiscal Year 2018 county budget that cuts over $5 million in spending to tackle that deficit without reducing public services, while making investments in innovative public safety, libraries and other critical infrastructure. Members of the public can share questions and ideas they would like the County Executive to address by clicking on the banner at the top of the County’s Facebook page and submitting a comment now. Individuals can also submit questions to the County Executive through the county’s Facebook page during the live event.

Delaware’s first-ever Facebook Live Town Hall, hosted by County Executive Meyer on March 9, has drawn more than 5,500 views.
