To better serve the communities of New Castle County, we are now offering leisure time activities to residents of all ages at several locations throughout the area. We know you'll catch our enthusiasm and will want to sign up for a class or two after you see the many activities offered in the Happenings Guide. You'll find parent and tot classes, programs for preschoolers, activities for elementary-age children, teens, and our very popular adult classes.
No sign up fees or annual membership fees are required to participate in any class or activity at any New Castle County Recreation Center. Participants pay only the cost listed in program descriptions to join a class.
The Search is on for Instructors
The Department of Community Services is looking for instructors (Independent Contractors) to teach classes in the Middletown area, Brandywine Town Center, Art Studio, Rockwood, Middletown-Odessa-Townsend area, and Garfield Park and Hockessin Recreation Centers.
The main classes the instructor may teach are:
Fitness or Exercise (aerobics, pilates, Tai Chi, etc.)
The Arts (arts and crafts, beading, print making, drawing, watercolors, etc.)
Instruction may be designed for children, teens, adults, parent and child, or any combination of adult / child. If you have a family member or friend that may be interested in becoming an instructor, please call 302-239-8861 or 302-571-4004.
It is highly recommended that you register as soon as possible to be assured a spot in a class. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We suggest that you register in person at the designated center.
Phone reservations and/or spot holds are not accepted. Completed registration forms, accompanied by payment (cash or check) must be received seven calendar days prior to the start date of a class. Many of our drop-in programs are free of charge, but nominal fees are associated with most classes taught by certified instructors. Check with the staff if you have any questions or suggestions for new programs.
